Different Types of Driveway Gates

Driveway gates are the easiest way to improve the security of your property and control access. They come in different designs and forms so they can add to the aesthetics and curb appeal of your property as well. At Boston Ironworks, we’ve noticed that most of our clients don’t know how to choose the right kind of gates for their property because they don’t know the options available to them. Here’s a small introduction and description of all the gates options available to you:

 1. Automated slide gates

These are some of the most common gates used in both commercial and residential properties. The gate doors slide in either left or right direction based on the amount of space available. You need to make sure you have enough space on one side of the driveway to accommodate the entire door. For example, if your driveway spans 15 feet, you need to have 15 or more feet of space on one side of the driveway. There are three types of slide gates available in the market and they are:

  • V-track
  • Rear Pipe Track
  • Cantilever (Full, Top hanging, and bottom track cantilever gates)
  • Single swing gates with a single door at opens to one side.
  • Double swing gates with two doors that open to both sides of the driveway.

2. Swing gates

These driveway gates are a great option for you if you have limited amount of space at the sides. They swing open like a regular door when you push inward or outward depending on the type of hinges you install. Outward swinging gates might obstruct the road outside your property so it’s a good idea to plan the placement correctly. There are two types of swing gates available in the market and they are:

3. Barrier gates

Barrier gates are often found in commercial properties and are often used to control and restrict access as well as traffic. They’re essentially a long panels made of wood and metal that are controlled by an operator or an automatic system. These gates aren’t used in residential properties unless traffic control is required.

You can also choose to install vertical pivot or vertical lift driveway gates based on your requirements and preferences.
